    If you haven't heard of Sam Smith singing live, your life is meaningless. In my opinion, he is the greatest singer in the world! I'll express my thoughts later. But first, let's take a look at the feats he has achieved. Cooperating with Naughty Boy - "la la la" in 2012, Sam smith let the music industry know his existence. La la la has won him a number 1 single and 2 international awards. 

    After the popular single, he released his debut studio album, in the lonely hour, which got him nominated for 6 Grammy Awards. In the end, he got 4 of them! It's a very impressive feat for someone who has only released one album. After that, his career has flourished and he won tons of awards. 

    personally, I think Sam Smith has the best voice. His live performances are ALWAYS better than his album. It's pretty rare in the time when we get autotune, almost impossible. And his singing on stage seems so effortless like he doesn't need to sing hard at the high pitch.

Christina Perry - the most underated singer

    Some of you may have heard of  "a thousand years", the theme song of twilight. But many people don't know it was written and sung by Christina Perri. Christina was born on the east side of US in 1986 and then moved to Los Angeles, married and making music videos for the living. However, she divorced 18 months later. Depressed and lonely, she moved back home to heal, in which she wrote Jar of Hearts.

    Soon she got better and moved back to Los Angeles, waitressing at Cafe during the day and recording at night. In 2010, her friend sent Jar of Hearts to a snow choreographer. After the exposure on the show, Jar of Hearts peaked at number 17 on hot 100 and sold 100000 copies within a month. Then she signed a deal with Atlantic Records on July 21, 2010 and published two albums after.

    I believed the divorce has a great impact on her writing style, for the lyrics she wrote are the most beautiful I've ever seen and best describe the bittersweet, hope and pain in a relationship. In Jar of Hearts, " You're gonna catch a cold. From the ice inside you soul. So don't come back for me. Don't come back at all." the lyrics say a hurt man's roar to the old lover. 

    

    In Human,"I can hold my breath. I can bite my tongue. I can stay awake for days if that's what you want. Be your number one. I can do it. I can do it. I can do it. But I'm only human. And I bleed when I fall down. I'm only human. And I crash and I break down. Your words in my head, knives in my heart. You build me up and then I fall apart. 'Cause I'm only human, yeah" it describes the powerless when the two of you have different thought. With her soft and mature voice, these songs accompanied me through my hard time. So, if you have some bad mood and need to release some pressure, you can check the videos below. 

    Despite she has made some house-hold songs, her name is still not well-known. Christina Perri is currently working on her third album and I personally hope it will catch people's attention and give her the honor she deserves.

Alan Wlaker - supernova in music industry

    This week, I'm going to introduce another singer who doesn't show their face,Alan Walker. Unlike Sia, no matter how hard I tried, I can only found a picture of him being interviewed and showed his eyes.

    Despite the fact that Alan Walker is only 19, his music has gained a lot of attention. He was born in England and moved to Norway with his parents. He didn't have any musical background at first. When he found interest in making music, he started to learn music production by watching videos on Youtube.

    Although Alan Walker studied all the skills by himself, his "first" MV, faded, has got 700 million views. Let see how he achieve such a feet. At first, Alan Walker made electronic music out of interest. Then he released fade, without human vocal, via NoCopyrightSounds. 

    Soon the video became the most viewed in the channel. After that, he released faded, a version featured female vocalist Iselin Solheim, and the song had topped the chart in different countries soon after. ( the song you are listening right now)

    In June 2016, Alan Walker released his second single, sing me to sleep. Faded is truly a masterpiece in the realm of electronic music. Personally, however, I think sing me to sleep is even better!!!! Because faded has been over-listened by me. So I highly recommend you listening both of them. (link is down below)

    Sia hides her complicated and tough past under the "mask." Here I mean an actual mask she wears every time under the spotlight. There are lots of things of her such as it  to explore. So comfort yourself, the journey is about to begin.

    Back in 1995, Sia started her career as a singer, while her debut album sold only 1200 copies, 1000 of which are from her hometown. After the failure, Sia decided moved to London with her lover, however, her lover died in a car accident before long. 

    It traumatized Sia deeply, making her live a life filled with drugs and alcohol for years. After that, she released an album, healing is difficult, in memory of her lover. From 2000 to 2008, Sia published several albums and changed her management company frequently because dissatisfied with poor marketing.


    When <some people have real problems> released, Sia finally achieved better sales. After getting a taste of success, however, she said the following words in an interview" This buzz doesn't just come because of a good song. It's marketing. Which is sick. This is a sick business. It's so sad. Knowing now what goes into making a successful artist, it's disheartening" After that, Sia made her decision. She wanted to be a songwriter instead of singer anymore.


      But in 2011, David Guetta released a single, Titanium, which is a huge success. But he included Sia's demo vocal on it. However, Sia was not pleased. "I never even knew it was gonna happen, and I was really upset. Because I had just retired, I was trying to be a pop songwriter, not an artist," she said. But after a long contemplation, she decided to seize the opportunity To prevent her from being "actual" famous, Sia put on a signature blond wig covering her face to live a life without paparazzi and public attention.

    From 2003, Sia has released tons of popular albums and single, like chandelier, elastic heart, big girls cry, cheap thrills, the greatest, etc. Someone even made a funny version of chandelier.
         

    Sia truly has a unique voice and deserves attention. But we might just leave her alone as she wishes. Although we can see her face from her early performance and albums, next time we see her on the street, we should pretend we don't know and wish her a happy and private life.

    Recently, the Chainsmokers' popularity  has increased rapidly. However, they didn't show their face or voice in the music video. That leads to a question-who are they?
    Well, the Chainsmokers are an EDM(electronic dance music) DJ team which composed of two people, Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart.

    All their songs are sung by other singers, and they are focusing on composing the rhythm and lyrics. After the single, #selfie, went viral, they have gained more and more attention, creating more catchy songs, like roses, don't let me down, and, of course, closer, which has got almost 500 million views.
    Since they have only set up for 3 years, we can expect they gradually grow into a tornado and sweep over the music industry.

    Among the most famous singers all over the world, Justin Bieber is one of the youngest. How did he achieve success so quickly? Well, it was because of Bieber's mother, Mallette.

    In 2007, Bieber attended a competition and won the second place, and Mallette uploaded the video on youtube. She continued to upload videos of Bieber singing covers of various R&B songs, and Bieber's popularity on the site grew.
  
    When searching for a different singer, Scooter Braun, a former marketing executive of So So Def Recordings ,clicked on Bieber's video by accident. Impressed by his talent, Braun contacted Mallette immediately. And Bieber's journey to success began.

    Until now, Justin Bieber has released 3 albums, MY WORLDS, BELIEVE and PURPOSE,  received tons of awards and praises, and set lots of records. Besides the feat he achieved, however, he is also never short of negative news.

   For example, in 2014, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence(酒駕), driving with an over 6 month expired license, and resisting arrest.

   Moreover, he was accused by his neighbor for intentional destruction of thousands of dollars, even throwing a big sex party with prostitutes and marijuana(大麻). After all these news, more than 270000 people petitioned the White House seeking to have him deported from the United States. But it was not approved in the end.

    Despite all the bad behavior, Justin Bieber does do a great job as a singer, and he still does some great stuff like charity. Since he sang a lot of sorry in his new song, I guess we can give him a 100th chance:)
